Teicoplanin is a glycopeptide antibiotic used to treat serious Gram-positive bacterial infections, especially those caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and other resistant bacteria.
It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, which leads to bacterial death. Teicoplanin has a long half-life, allowing once-daily dosing in many cases, making it convenient for both hospital and outpatient treatment.
Teicoplanin 400 mg injection is used to treat:
Severe skin and soft tissue infections
Bloodstream infections (septicemia)
Endocarditis
Bone and joint infections (osteomyelitis, septic arthritis)
Respiratory tract infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria
Other infections caused by MRSA or resistant Gram-positive organisms
